Did you, or someone you know, play pennants for Broadmeadow Squash Club?
Situated on Lambton road near the Nine Ways in the late 70’s and 80’s, the building was irreparably damaged in the 1989 Newcastle earthquake. The courts were run by Micheal Sealey and Terry Banks at the time.
If the answer is yes, then we would love to hear from you as we are organising another reunion on the 9th of November 2019.
We have had 2 x reunions in the past and they were a great success with lots of tall
tales and reminiscing about, but not limited to, how no one got killed staggering down the back steps in the wee hours!
If you did not get invited to the last reunions, that was only because we had lost
contact with lots of you over the years. The courts were deemed unsafe to enter and
subsequently demolished after the earthquake. Players were transferred to other clubs but eventually scattered to the four winds.
It is planned that for the next reunion, you will bring your own picnic and liquid
refreshment for Saturday lunch in Speers Point Park just to the West of the open
walled shed. This will allow everyone to interact, reminisce and generally reacquaint
without too much interference or background noise. We will have a few gazebos erected for shelter so bring a chair also.
For those that may not be available at midday but available later we plan to go out somewhere for dinner also if enough interest is shown.
Please rack your brains or ask your friends as we would love to hear from as many ex-players as possible.
